Pencil Patrol: Stubby versus the erasers

October 14, 2026

Pencil Patrol is a maze-chase game in the spirit of the arcade classics, and it is the newest game on the site. Stubby, a stubby little pencil, scuttles through coloured-pencil mazes collecting dots while four googly-eyed erasers try to rub him out.

Four erasers, four habits

The thing that makes a maze chase fun is not the maze, it is the chasers. Each eraser has its own way of moving: Pinky chases you directly, Smudge tries to get ahead of you, Zigzag zigzags, and Dozer gets shy and backs off when you are close. Once you learn those four habits you can play the erasers against each other, which is where the game gets good.

The gold star

Grab a gold star sticker and the erasers go pale and wobbly for a few seconds. Bonk them back into the pencil case and the points climb: 200, 400, 800, 1600. Saving the star until the erasers are bunched up is the single best trick in the game.

Stubby, the erasers and the mazes are all hand-drawn in pencil for this game, with dark outlines and coloured-pencil cross-hatching inside, which is the look we are moving every Sketchpad game toward. The erasers go back to their corners every so often, which gives you a breather to grab dots. Clear the page and the next one is a little faster.
